Design Goals
The Department of Speech, Music and
Hearing needed to develop applications reusing functionality in existing
program modules, in some cases distributed over several machines connected
to the Internet. This required a method for interprocess communication
(IPC) between the modules.
The the IPC-method should fulfill the following criteria:

Easy to use in programs

Platform independent

Uniform interface for all modules
