Read more here 25 Nov 2011 Furhat goes to Robotville   The Speech group showcase their robot head Furhat at RobotVille Festival at the Science Museum in London. Between the 29th of November and the 4th of December 2011, Furhat will be on show at the robot festival, where 10,000 visitors are expected. The visitors will be able to talk with Furhat in a three-part dialogue setting. Read more about furhat here Press release here RobotVille is part of a pan-European Robot week 22 Nov 2011 Up to 4 PhD positions in Speech Technology and Communication   The goal of the positions is to contribute to the research foundation for speech technology in tomorrow's conversational systems. Anticipated specializations Conversational human-robot interaction Speech synthesis for human-like dialog Avatars that interact through speech, gesture or sign language Studies of situation-sensitive dialogue behavior The positions include free tuition and are salaried 4 year employments, presently starting at 2600 euro/month increasing to 3200 euro/month for the last year. To get information about how to apply for the positions go to KTH's main website: English and Svenska   10 Nov 2011 The Speech Group got two projects funded by VR/NT (young researchers)   Gabriel Skantze got 4-year funding for the project "Incremental processing in multimodal conversational systems" and Anna Hjalmarsson got 3-year funding for the project "Classifying and deploying pauses for flow control in conversational systems"   03 Aug 2011 New course with start 29/08 2011 DT2300 SOUND IN INTERACTION    This new course offers a multi-disciplinary overview of the principles underlying the use of sound in interaction between users and machines. The course combines the basics as well as the latest results in sound perception, sound in human-machine interaction, and sonification (e.g. data representation using the audio channel). 03 May 2011 Tal, musik och hörsel dubbla vinnare i PTS Innovationstävling   Två projekt från TMH fick idag stöd från PTS Innovationstävling "Innovation för alla". Jonas Beskow för "Teckeninlärning via datorspel och lekfull interaktion" och Kjetil Falkenberg Hansen för "Interaktiva lyssnarupplevelser för hörselskadade med hjälp av moderna mobiltelefoner". Prisceremonin med tal av kulturminister Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth blev direktsänt på nätet. 02 Mar 2011 Ljuden väcker känslor på KTH    SvD har uppmärksammat TMH:s forskning kring varför människor uppfattar känslor i musik. Med hjälp av musikprogram för mobiler och specialbyggda instrument studerar forskare på KTH hur, och varför, människor uppfattar känslor i musik. Resultatet kan både gynna landslaget i rodd och hörsel­skadade. Read more here 05 Oct 2010 Best Paper Award at SIGdial 2010   Gabriel Skantze and Anna Hjalmarsson received the Best Paper Award at SIGdial 2010 for the paper Towards Incremental Speech Generation in Dialogue Systems. SIGdial is a yearly conference for research on dialogue systems, this year held in Tokyo. One of the keynote speakers this year was Hiroshi Ishiguro - one of the world's most prominent researchers on robotics. The meeting offers the chance: to meet experts in sonification to present and demonstrate your own research to strengthen your european networking in sonification research to learn about new exciting trends Additional goals of the meeting are: to relate research on the topic of gestural control of auditory displays to interactive sonification to survey the requirements for building Interactive Sonification systems to establish a network of interested researchers in the field and exchange experiences High quality will be assured by a peer-reviewing process, and besides a web publication we might decide to transform the proceedings into a special journal issue, as in the 1st ISon meeting, see IEEE Multimedia Special Issue on Interactive Sonification. He was a great person and an ingenious experimenter, researcher, and technician with wide horizons that embraced language learning, acoustics, and analysis and synthesis of speech and voice. At the same time, he was completely uninterested in blowing his own horn, making PR for his methods and results. We who had the privilege of working with him have therefore decided to arrange Jan Gauffin Memorial Symposium as a way of honoring his memory. This symposium will focus on research related to Jan’s main areas of interest, voice source analysis, laryngeal function, language learning, and speech training. Read more here   03 Feb 2006 Jonas Beskow, får Chester Carlson-priset   Jonas Beskow, 35, vid institutionen Tal, musik och hörsel på KTH, har tilldelats Chester Carlsons forskningspris som delas ut till framstående forskningsarbeten inom IT. Jonas Beskow belönas för en innovation som gör det möjligt för hörselskadade att klara av vanliga telefonsamtal Motiveringen lyder: "För framstående insatser att ge rösten ett ansikte som förbättrar kommunikationen mellan människa och dator i till exempel dialogsystem och mellan människor, speciellt vid hörselskada och i bullriga miljöer."
