This web page is at

The KTH Music Acoustics Group at the School of Computer Science and Communication is pleased to host the 5th International Conference on the Physiology and Acoustics of Singing, PAS 5. We are confident that, in coming to PAS 5, you will reach a very qualified audience who are eager to see your work. In a summer that is positively bristling with conferences on acoustics and voice, we will strive to make PAS 5 a pleasant retreat, in the form of a relaxed yet focused meeting in the glorious city of Stockholm.

Guidelines for paper and poster presentations

Please allocate 15 minutes for your oral presentation, and leave 5 minutes for discussion and changeover. The auditorium is fully featured with a stereo sound system, wireless lapel and hand microphones, dual computer projectors, Internet connection, and a digital overhead projector. Please make any special audio-visual needs known, and liaise with the session chairperson and our technical staff for testing as early as you can.

The posters will be on exhibit throughout the conference, in the coffee and lunch area. Posters will be pinned to white cardboard stands that are 90 cm wide by 190 cm tall. Pins will be provided. If you need additional facilities such as a power outlet (230 V, 50 Hz) or a small table, then please let us know in advance. There will be no commercial exhibition.

Guidelines for workshops

There will be three workshop sessions in parallel, in the afternoons starting at 15:00 and 16:00. If your workshop starts at 15:00, please end in time for the next workshop to start at 16:00. Workshop rooms will have a piano or electric keyboard as well as computer projection and a basic stereo sound system.

If you plan to distribute handouts, you are welcome to send us a PDF in advance, and we will print it for inclusion in the conference materials. The paper size will be A4.

Friday 13 August

PAS 5 has ended, but those staying on for the weekend will have an opportunity to socialise and see the city.

Accompanying persons programme

Stockholm is usually at its best in mid-August – the city is warm, and most of the natives have yielded the streets to visitors. It is not hard to find things to see and to do. Please indicate if you would like us to arrange a programme for accompanying persons, all the same.

About PAS

PAS is a small meeting that focuses on the scientific aspects of voice production and perception in singing. It was first organised by the Groningen Voice Research Lab in 2002, at the initiative of Professor Harm Schutte. PAS is held nominally every two years, in the years between the PEVOC conferences. Hitherto, PAS has alternated between the U.S. and Europe. There is no formal organising committee; the hosts volunteer from meeting to meeting.

The KTH Music Acoustics group regularly hosts the Stockholm Music Acoustics Conference, SMAC, which is held once every decade (!) at KTH in Stockholm. The fourth SMAC will be held in early August of 2013. We also hosted PEVOC 4 in 2001.
