The MICASE Corpus of American Academic Speech

Abstract

Professor Swales is the leading figure in English-for-Academic-Purposes-oriented genre studies and the author of Genre Analysis: English in Academic and Research Settings (Cambridge, 1990), Other Floors, Other Voices: A Textography of a Small University Building (Erlbaum, 1998), English in Today´s Research World (with Christine Feak) (University of Michigan Press, 2000), Research Genres (Cambridge, 2004) and Academic Writing for Graduate Students (with Christine Feak) (University of Michigan Press, 2004). The MICASE corpus consists of transcribed and recorded spoken English from a wide variety of formal and informal academic settings. It is available at http://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/micase/.
