I downloaded http://www.speech.kth.se/wavesurfer/wavesurfer-154-win.zip
and ran wavesurfer.exe . The "wavesurfer initializing" dialog appears, indicating it is loading the first component. Then I get the
"tclkit ... has encountered a problem and needs to close" dialog from
WinXP. (I told it not to "tell Microsoft about this problem." icon_smile.gif).
However, here's the "error signature:"

AppName: wavesurfer.exe
AppVer: 8.4.2.4
ModName tcl17.tmp
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset 00004512

Any suggestions? previous versions of wavesurfer (1.50) have worked
fine for me in the past.

Thanks,
Niels.

I can't help, unfortunately, but I tried it, and could not reproduce your problem (WinXP Home Edition).

Regards,
Geoffrey

Since a previous poster replied that he had no problems with Wavesurfer
running on WinXP home edition I wanted to update with some more
information on my setup:
(1) I am running Windows XP with all the latest microsoft "hotfix" patches.
(2) Not that it should matter with the tclkit/standalone wavesurfer, but
I have a full install of Cygwin based on the DLL 1.5.5-1 release.
This cygwin install includes tcl and various tcl accessories.
(3) The previous tclkit/standalone version of wavesurfer on my system, version 1.5.0, runs just fine. The problem is repeatable with version 1.5.4.

Try running the source (script) version, if the error persists that will make debugging a lot easier.

I am having the same problem, with a similar system. I tried 1.4.7, same problem. I also tried using the source file, same stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

Try the following modification to the script release.

wavesurfer-1.5.4/wsurf1.5/wsurf.tcl
change lines 26-27 to read
set Info(debug) 5
snack::debug $Info(debug) debug.txt

Now try running wavesurfer.tcl

This will generate a debug trace file which hopefully can give me a clue to what goes wrong.
Send the file to kare@speech.kth.se
Thanks!
