Sorry!

The new Windows binary refuses to run on Windows XP (Pro) on my PC. Once, the former version was running, but I'm not shure if it was runnig before upgrading WaveSurfer today.
Are there any ideas?

Best regards

Hi

I didin't download the binary version, but the source runs for me (seemingly same version of Windows).
1. Did you try from the source release ?
2. Do you get an error message that could help guessing what's wrong ?

Regards,
Geoffrey

Thanks!

I am a sales man and not able to compile the stuff by myself. This is why I download the binary. What will I need for compilation?

There is no error message. The small init graphis is displayed, counting the components read counting from 1 to 19 (or 20). Then the window diapears and nothing happens!

I have installed Tcl/Tk 8.4.5.0 from ActiveState and Snack 223.
The Snack Demos also have some problems. Maybe, there is a problem with my soundboard installation within XP. (I had to try several USB soundboards these days!)

I will come back.

Best regards

You don't need to compile anything from the 'source' version.
Indeed, it comes as a zip file that you can extract anywhere. Once extracted, you get a "wavesurfer-VERSION" (here, VERSION is 1.6.0) directory, that contains a 'wavesurfer.tcl' file.
Just launch it, and you're done.

If you don't get any error message, I guess the Tcl/Tk interpreter crashes. I will try to download Snack 2.2.3 (not sure about which version I use exactly) and check it.
Otherwise.... you'll need to wait for Kare, since it will be beyond my knowledge.

Regards,
Geoffrey

It would be interesting to know what problems the Snack demos exhibit.
My only guess is that the USB sound box could have something to do with it, I've had other indications of that. This needs to be solved.

Hi there!

Yes, removing the USB sound card solves the problem! After shutdown, removing the USB soundbord and reboot, wavesurfer starts again from the binary version. After connecting the soundboard again, it refuses to work anymore. Removing it online, will also help!
I have used several USB soundboards: EDIROL UA-1A, EDIROL UA-3D, Creative soundblaster mp3+. They all have the same problem.
Installing the source version (1.6.1) and ActiveTcl (8.4.5.0 includes snack 2.2) will run with the USB soundboards.

Please tell if I could do more testing!

Best regards

I think I might have solved the USB card problem, I've made a binary windows release available for testing at http://www.speech.kth.se/~kare/wavesurfer.exe
