In 1.6.1, on Mac OS X.3, playback of a selcted portion reveals some buffering problems. Often, the first playback starts or ends with some audio from an earlier selection, suggesting that the playback buffers are incorrectly aligned.

Second playback is often ok, but the presence of audio from a previous selection seems to recur if playback is done repeatedly.

I think this is the origin of the 'echo' reported in a different thread.

Best regards

Hello,

I've made some changes in libsnack.dylib which is were the actual playback is done.
You'll find the file at http://www.speech.kth.se/~kare/libsnack.dylib

Replace the existing version which is contained in /Library/Tcl/snack2.2/

One way of doing this is from a Terminal window with
sudo cp libsnack.dylib /Library/Tcl/snack2.2/

There are still issues though, but the echo should be gone.

Thanks Kåre! I'll try that. I agree that there appear to me multiple issues lirking here.

I've removed the library and instead updated the Mac OS X distribution with the fix.

Although the libsnack.dylib file that was installed with WaveSurfer-1.7.2 is dated 30 Sept, 2004, and so presumably incorporates Kare's February improvements, I am still hearing this echo at the end of playback on files as short as 2 seconds. Playing the end of the file alone doesn't produce the echo - it only happens when playing more than about a half second or so of sound. It does not show up in spectrograph or pitch extraction plotting, though. This problem occurs when starting with both MP3 and AIFF files (I haven't tried other formats).

I'm on Mac G5, OS X.3.5, WaveSurfer-1.7.2.

I'll check to see that the latest release really uses the right library...

Maybe you could use the version of WaveSurfer refered to in this posting http://www1.speech.kth.se/prod/wavesurferforum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=308
to generate a debug log file. Make sure to use a minimum of operations, e.g. only click play once, in order to keep the file short. Send it to me by e-mail.

Thanks!
