I am using Wavesurfer on a MacOSX machine. Playback works perfectly, but Record
crashes everytime. I've used the autonomous 1.6.2 WaveSurfer package as well a
s older versions of WaveSurfer in combination with Snack 2.2 and 2.2.4.

Record works fine in other programs.

This is what I get when I run wavesurfer from a terminal window

In the autonomous version I get
"Bus error"

In the piecemeal 1.6.2 I get:

Bus error "$(dirname $0)/../../Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/Versions/8.4/Resources/Wish Shell.app/Contents/MacOS/Wish Shell" "$@"

Anybody have any ideas? I'm out of them!

Thank you,

Paul

What sort of Mac do you use? Any special hardware?

I tried this with both a USB sound system as well as an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 card.

The machine is a G4 running MacOSX 10.3.3.

As far as I can gather, it is likely not the card--because I tried two. It's likely not a problem with the installed TCL or Snack libraries, because it happens with the packaged 1.6.2, and it probably isn't the version of the OS I'm running because it ran like this on 10.3, as well.

Any ideas? :)

You could try to edit wsurf.tcl, line 20, like this

set Info(debug) 5

Now start WaveSurfer from the console and try to record, you should get a debug log.
Send it to me at kare@speech.kth.se, might give me a clue.

Otherwise compile Snack yourselt and play around with some printf's in unix/jkAudIO_osx.c, not as difficult as it sounds, but not directly easy either...
