What is "energy" in acoustics?How is it defined in wavesurfer?

You can compute the energy of a signal by choosing power plot in WaveSurfer.

With the default settings this will compute the energy in windows spaced 10ms, by summing X1*X1+X2*X2+... for each window, where X1 is the sample with index 1, etc.
The sum is converted to dB before plotting.
