Hi Kåre,

Recording with Snack does not work on the IBM laptop I'm using. I tried both from wavesurfer and by calling snack commands from the Tcl shell. The error message is different in the latest version of snack than in an earlier install that I had.

When a "Win multimedia" audio input device (I have 3: WaveMapper, SoundMAX Digital Audio, USBPre Microphone Interface) is selected, I get the error "waveInOpen failed". When a "DirectSound" audio input device (available for the same three as above) is selected, I get the error "Failed creating capture buffer".

With the earlier 2.2 version of Snack that I had, I was able to record using a DirectSound device, but audio packets of about half a second where each repeated 20 or more times in the recorded waveform.

Using Cooledit, I can record fine. In cooledit I only see 3 audio devices, the distinction between "Win multimedia" and "DirectSound" is not offered there.

Thanks for your help,

Johan

Try setting the sample rate to 44100 before recording and number of channels to 2. (Right-click in the wavebar, Properties | Sound)

Maybe your sound hardware only supports the above?

This issue will be addressed after the summer.

On Linux this problem is already solved, if the hardware only supports stereo, the user gets mono or stereo as requested. I'll fix this for Windows but in August...
