I have noticed that Wavesurfer expects all data to be accounted for in
a transcription. As an example, in the following Wavesurfer format
transcription:

2494.685 2495.426 Dd
2502.898 2503.771 Dd
2504.724 2505.676 Dd

Wavesurfer 1.6.5 treats the second label as if it spanned 2495.426 -
2503.771 instead of from 2502.898 - 2503.771. Similar issues
occur for the third label. This can of course be worked around by adding
dummy labels:

2494.685 2495.426 Dd
2495.426 2502.898 Noise
2502.898 2503.771 Dd
2503.771 2504.724 Noise
2504.724 2505.676 Dd

but it would be nice to have Wavesurfer recognize labels which have
skips between them.

Thanks - Marie

Have had several requests for this and today I finally got round to implementing it.

I've made a special test version, which can be downloaded at
http://www.speech.kth.se/~kare/wavesurfer-165-win.zip

Non contiguous labels are only supported for the WaveSurfer format, the other formats work as previously.

I've also implemented transcription file format detection, which should make life easier for newcomers. Basicly there is no need to specify the format in properties anymore. Properties | file format is only used if a transcription is to be saved in another format (this also makes the convert menu item redundant.)

If all this works I'll make a new release.

Dear Kåre,

Preliminary tests with the new functionality appear to work well. I should be exercising it fairly heavily over the next few days and will let you know if I have any problems.

Thank you very much - Marie

I made some further improvements and felt confident enough to release v1.7
Bug fixes will go into v1.7.1 icon_wink.gif

What about labels that overlap in time (because the label file has been generated outside of Wavesurfer). Is there a way to use Wavesurfer to detect these overlaps, for instance by using a different color?

Sounds interesting, will think about this when I get back after vacation. I feel it's time to expand WaveSurfer's transcription capabilities in general.
