Hi,

I am a wavesurfer user. I use it to view spetrograms of music, speech and
other sounds, mostly for esthetical reasons. I have several feature
requests:

1) (importance: high) When the music plays, the spectrogram's view should
scroll smoothly, so I can always see the fragment I hear.

2) (importance: high) Vertical zooming of spectrogram's view should be as
easy as horizontal zooming is (just dragging the mouse).

3) (importance: high) It should be possible to set analysis window to more
than 256 points. Also when the spectrogram consists of, say, 100 points
(vertically) and the pane's height is, say, 600 points, it should be scaled
by a sort of interpolating, not just "the closest neighbour" method. The
spectrogram would be more smooth this way.

4) (importance: high) In greyscale mode the spectrogram uses 256 grades of
gray. I have a feeling, that in colour mode it also uses only 256 colours.
If this is the case, it should be changed. The spectrogram would be more
smooth this way.

5) (importance: high) I'd like to have a possibility to export the
spectrogram to a file. As a raw data, and maybe as png image as well.

6) (importance: low) I'd like to have a possibility to playback the sound
faster and slower (preferably, with unchanged pitch, please).

I look forward for new versions of wavesurfer!

1. Turn scrolling on here

Preferences | Misc | Scroll type during playback: Scroll

The degree of smoothness will depend on your computer

If the file isn't too long (or you don't zoom in too much) you can try this option

Properties | Spectrogram | Pre-draw graphics: On

which makes the graphics a lot faster

2. I need to think about this one... not hard though, only an interface issue...

3-4. It is possible, but first you need to increase Properties | Spectrogram | FFT window length:
not too intuitive... will think about improving this...
Spectrograms are actually interpolated, the number of colors is just too low (32) this will be fixed in the next release. It reflects the hardware that Snack was originally developed on and this number was never increased... hard too believe...

5. I'm unlikely to add this functionality myself (contributions welcome), check out this posting for a programmers way to do it http://www1.speech.kth.se/prod/wavesurferforum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=279
If you want to export the spectrogram image just save a postscript file using Print...
If you're interested I can show you how to save only the spectrogram image from the WaveSurfer console, skipping the freq axis...

6. This is already on the "to do" list.
