Hi,

I use wavesurfer under Linux. Whenever I try to play a sound on wavesurfer, it simply closes without making any sound. I've tried different types of sound-file. The waveform looks ok.

I've tried all possible output devices listed in Preferences. Is there any way to find out what's going wrong? Does Wavesurfer generate output on a crash?

I use wavesurfer 1.7 under Gentoo Linux (2.6 kernel), compiled from source.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since this is an excellent application!

Something I forgot to mention: When I run wavesurfer from a terminal window and reproduce the problem, I get : Segmentation Fault.

Thanks.

I assume that other sound software works. Also make sure you don't have any sound server running.
You can get WaveSurfer to generate debug output, simple start it with like this:
wavesurfer -debug 6, this will generate the log file ~/wsurf.log which you can send me by e-mail, kare@speech.kth.se
Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Other sound software works indeed. To my knowledge no other sound servers are running.

I've tried running 'wavesurfer -debug 6' but it doesn't seem to recognize the command line option: I get the messages 'Can't open the file -debug' and 'Can't open the file 6'.

Other command line options (like -play or -config) do seem to work.

Thanks.

Sorry, you need the next version for that option. Download here
http://www.speech.kth.se/~kare/wavesurfer-1.7.2.tar.gz
Don't worry about the version number, it will get updated.
