It would be nice if one could assign a shortcut key for Edit/Selection to new. Or is taht already possible but I don't know how to?

You can add it yourself easily. Modify the source distribution wavesurfer.tcl:BindKeys and add the line

bind $p <$::AccKey-b> CopyNew

I'll have a think about a more general solution. I guess all menu options should appear in Preferences | Keys.

I am a windows version user icon_sad.gif
I was surprised to see that I can set a key for "all" but that option, which is very handy when having to extract a lot of small parts in one big recording file.
I hope you will consider this in coming versions. icon_smile.gif

Thanks ,

It's not really diffcult.
Download and install ActiveTcl
http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActiveTcl/
Now download and unpack the WaveSurfer source distribution.
Open the file wavesurfer.tcl in WordPad and insert the line earlier mentioned just after the lines
proc BindKeys {p} {
bind $p <$::AccKey-n> New

Now save and exit. Run WaveSurfer by double clicking wavesurfer.tcl
If anything goes wrong try the last steps again or wait for an improved version...

Good luck!
