Dear all,

I've got a bit of a thorny problem here. I'm building an app that incorporates a wavesurfer transcription pane to display phone segment label endpointing information. Provided the user-defined labeIs are all ASCII characters, they are displayed correctly. If, however, certain Greek characters are used, a whole set of gibberish appears! The strange thing is that when I open the corresponding .lab file in a text editor, the characters are displayed as expected and my application processes them correctly. It is only the wavesurfer transcription pane that is displaying gibberish! Is there any way to programatically set the encoding of the wavesurfer transcription pane to correctly display different character sets?

Yes, use Properties | Trans1 | "Label file encoding".

The only problem is that you probably have to use the source release for it to work (currently).
Luckily this is much easier than it sounds. Download and install ActiveTcl
http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActiveTcl

Now download and unzip the WaveSurfer source distribution. That's it.

Double click on wavesurfer.tcl to run.
