WaveSurfer Plug-ins

WaveSurfer has a plug-in mechanism that allows it to be extended to handle new types of media, new file formats, new visualisation options etc. This page lists available WaveSurfer plug-ins with links to their documentation. Note that many of the built-in functions in WaveSurfer, such as the transcription facilities, are actually plug-ins also, but these are described in the WaveSurfer user manual.

NOTE: WaveSurfer has built in web based installation of plug-ins. Simply select Plug-ins from the File menu.

The video plugin makes it possible to open video files in WaveSurfer, to do labelling or annotations as well as simple cut-and-paste editing. (Windows and Mac OSX)

This plug-in adds support for the NIST/Sphere audio file format used in many popular speech databases. More information at LDC. Note that the plug-in currently only supports reading of Sphere files.

Ogg Vorbis

This plug-in adds support for the Ogg Vorbis audio file format. Ogg Vorbis is a completely open, patent-free, professional audio encoding and streaming technology with all the benefits of Open Source, see the Vorbis Home Page for more information. The Preferences dialog contains an OGG tab with options for writing ogg files. In order to save a file in the ogg format simply specify the filename extension .ogg
