Anders Friberg's research
Development of perceptual features. This includes perceptual annotation of several databases and new models of perceptual music features with an emphasis on general expressive qualities such as emotions (within the VR-project SEMIR).
Development of real-time feature extraction in MAX/MSP for artistic use (within the SUM project)
Performance synthesis in Director Musices. Once in a while I am improving the Director Musices program with a new rule or feature, see the music performance page
See also the Music Acoustics project page.
Home conducting. Development of an expressive sequencer allowing realtime control of the KTH rule system. New gesture recognition mappers for direct gestural control of music expressivity.
Hoppsa Universum. An interactive dance installation initated by choreographer Anna Källblad. Five video cameras are detecting motion and motion patterns of the whole floor in a large exhibition room. The visitors movements are triggering different musical scenes as well as light.
Melody finder Which is the main melody in a polyphonic midi score? Melodic statistical features such as pitch range and duration range are used for predicting the main melody in a set of annotaded ringtones (part of the VR-project SYMIR, together with Sven Ahlbäck)
Analysis of musicians' body movements (with Sofia Dahl, MEGA)
Groove machine Uses video input that analyses a dancer's movements in term of expressive content. This is controling a mixer producing/selecting music according to th expressed mood of the dancer (MEGA).
Random fluctuations of timing in music performance. Part of the GERM-project together with Roberto Bresin and Patrik Juslin, Uppsala University (Feel-Me)
Swing ratios and ensemble timing in jazz. See separate page.
Analysis of violin vibrato.
Combinating the Radio Baton and Director Musices. The Radio Baton was developed by Max Mathews, Stanford University and is an controller device with two sticks that are sensitive to 3D position over a bottom plate.A midi score can be "conducted" by beating the pulse with one stick and controlling dynamics with the other stick. The midi score has been preprocessed with Director Musices in order to model the musicians contribution to the performance. Since the Radio Baton controls the overall tempo and dynamics, Director Musices is used for the micro-level control. See a performance at the PEVOC 2001 opening session with Malena Ernman, voice and Jan Risberg, Radio Baton Video (5Mb). Together with Johan Sundberg, Max Mathews, Craig Sapp and Gerald Bennett.
