Signification in Auditory Display: When are two perceptualizations equivalent, and who cares?

Abstract

In this talk I will present recent work (i) in which we have explored the role of signification in auditory display and how this impacts upon our listening experience and (ii) how we may establish equivalence relations between multimodal perceptualizations such as sonifications and visualizations.
