From page 39: The most prestigious battle, the DMC World Championships, focused initially on mixing for a dancing crowd, but quickly got more advanced with sophisticated scratching and beatjuggling in six minutes long sets, and now with three competition disciplines.
DJ Chad Jackson won DMC World in 1987 with a set filled with tricks like playing without using the mixer, and scratching with a billiard cue. He used mainly the line switch for cutting.
In 1990 and 1991, DJ David won the DMC by taking body-tricks as far as possible, among other by a hand-stand on the playing turntable. After his second title, the focus was shifted more towards music again.
In the late 90s the DMC sets became more technical. This is DJ Craze, who won three years in a row with a style incorporating drum'n'bass.
Recent winners from 2006-07. DMC now has three disciplines: solo, team and supremacy. DJ Rafik won the DMC World Champion title. Notice that the records are changed more seldom than in earlier years.
The team discipline was started in 1999, but turntable teams had already been competing since Q-bert and Mixmaster Mike won the USA finals in 1992.
In 2000, a third discipline was introduced as the number of competitors had increased. The Battle for World Supremacy is a head-to-head knock-out competition style with 90 seconds sets. In the video, DJ Or D'Oeuvre loses to DJ Shiftee.
