A special kind of band is the all-turntable groups that were pioneered by The Invisibl Skratch Piklz. In turntable groups, the musicians take on different instrumental roles, such as bass, drums and vocals.
The Invisibl Skratch Piklz was the first all-turntable band, and the members Q-bert, Shortkut and Mixmaster Mike were all world leading scratch DJs. This is one of their final performances, from 2000. Their influence on the turntablism scene is unprecedented.
This video features both the Invisibl Skratch Piklz and the second most important turntable group, the X-ecutioners. It is not a competition, but the bands play in a battle style against each other. The DJs are from X-ecutioners (top row): Mista Sinista, Total Eclipse, Roc Raida, and Rob Swift, and from the Invisibl Skratch Piklz: D-Styles, Melo D, Q-bert and Shortkut.
